Zaynab (aka Alys) Allwardt, is a Dances of Universal Peace (DUP) leader and mentor. She has led dances in the Pacific Northwest and internationally for more than 20 years, co-founded two DUP groups in the Portland area, and helped dance circles adapt to a Zoom format in the early days of the pandemic.
The motto “have Dances, will travel” is quite appropriate for Zaynab. Some of the places she’s taken the dances include: labyrinth events, a maximum-security prison, a high school peace fair, birthday parties, house blessings, memorial services, Christian church and interfaith services, DUP retreats and camps, and “pop-up” Dances at the Parliament of the World’s Religions in 2018 and 2023.
A warm and welcoming dance leader, Zaynab says, “the Dances show that working for peace can also be ‘spiritual fun.’”

Zarifah Spain has been on the path of Sufism since 1976, when she was initiated by Murshid Moineddin into what is now the Sufi Ruhaniat International.
She has been a leader and musician for Zikr and the Dances of Universal Peace since 2011 and has traveled extensively over the past three years, offering those skills at camps and retreats in the US and abroad
